UPDATED CALL for Papers on “Renewing Catholic Culture” - Fellowship of Catholic Scholars Canada

Fellowship of Catholic Scholars Canada conference for 2025 to be held in Ottawa, Ontario.
Location and Dates -
Blessed Sacrament Parish (194 Fourth Ave Ottawa, ON K1S 2L6, Ottawa)
 Dates October 24-5
The theme of the conference for 2025 “Renewing Catholic Culture in Canada”.
This theme was designed to be broad enough to encompass the different disciplines and specialties of our diverse membership. A wise and venerable member of our Fellowship, however, has suggested an intriguing sub-theme which may help potential contributors to the Conference (and, I hope to Fidelitas) use as a framework.
We will, of course, consider all proposals which fall under the broad umbrella described above, but papers that consider the sub-theme described below may be scheduled differently and could be the basis of a special issue of Fidelitas.
The sub-theme is “The Both/And of Catholicism” and is described as follows:
The Catholic Faith is grounded in the fact that the eternal Son of God became man reconciling in this perfect union heaven and earth. A distinguishing hallmark of Catholicism, then, is its reconciliation of what appears to be opposite, irreconcilable, or contradictory, but which, upon closer examination is intimately related, even if, paradoxically.
Scholars are invited to explore an aspect of the both/and character of Catholicism from the viewpoint of their experiential or disciplinary expertise to illustrate its richness, potency, and relevance to life itself particularly as signposts guiding us on our pilgrimage of hope.

Examples of this “both/and” character include:
Faith and Reason
Grace and Nature
Mercy and Sin
Spirit and Matter
Freedom and Obedience
Chastity and Eroticism
Suffering and Joy
Person and Culture
Life and Death
Tradition and Scripture
Virginity and Marriage
Poetic and Scientific
Concrete and Abstract
Human and Divine
Life and Death
If you wish to present a paper at the conference, please forward the title to Miriam Westen at westenmiriam@gmail.com and to: Robert Berard at robert.berard@msvu.ca.
If there is sufficient interest, we would like to reserve one speaker session for students who could present a paper for ten to twenty minutes. If you know of students who would be interested in presenting, please contact Robert Berard.
We are also accepting papers for our academic journal "Fidelitas"
Should you decide to present or submit a paper, please confirm your intention with Miriam Westen at
westenmiriam@gmail.com .
