History position: Assistant Professor
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College (SWC) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at
the rank of Assistant Professor in History to begin 1 July 2025. This position will remain open until
filled and is subject to budgetary approval. Potential candidates are encouraged to apply immediately.
Candidates must have earned a doctorate in History, or a related field, or be in the last few weeks at the
ABD level. The area of expertise is open and the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses
over a broad range of historical periods and geographical areas – including Modern History (c.1500
until the present day) and US and Canadian history. The successful candidate will be joining a History
Department with a pre-existing program of courses, although there would be the possibility of adding a
limited number of courses in the candidate’s area of expertise in future years.
Candidates must have a strong record of teaching, or show strong potential of good teaching, as well as
evidence of excellence, or the capacity for excellence in research and academic publishing.
Administrative experience, especially in an academic context, would be an asset. Energy, strong
interpersonal skills and a positive, respectful and collaborative attitude, as well as a desire to serve in a
mission-based institution, are essential.
Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College offers higher education in the Catholic tradition of the liberal arts.
SWC was awarded degree-granting status by the Province of Ontario in May 2017. In 2024, the
College was granted permission to offer a four-year BA degree in History (as well as separate four-year
BA degrees in Literature and in Classical and Early Christian Studies). Our Lady Seat of Wisdom
College is fully faithful to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. The college takes its
Catholic identity and character very seriously. All instructors at SWC are required to affirm in writing
their fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and to teach in full accord with it. The
successful candidate will be someone who feels at home in such an environment and who is committed
to a sense of purpose in which his/her academic work and his/her personal faith support each other.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will be inspired by the mission of the college and eager to

Salary is commensurate with experience, within the context of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College’s
